According to a recent report, Samsung is planning to launch a generative artificial intelligence tool next month. The company will unveil the tool on the 12th of September at the Real Summit event scheduled to be held in Seoul.
A Samsung executive, Kyung Kye-Hyun confirmed the development of the ChatGPT-like tool. In a lecture delivered at Yonsei University in June, Kyung Kye-Hyun shed light on the company’s pioneering efforts in creating an AI tool reminiscent of ChatGPT. Although specific details remain shrouded in mystery, the excitement surrounding this announcement is palpable.
The intriguing question of whether the tool being presented is an early prototype or the final iteration still lingers. Those eagerly awaiting the launch can only speculate until the event itself unfolds. However, anticipation continues to mount as Samsung prepares to usher in a new era of AI-driven technological innovation.
Initial access to this groundbreaking tool is slated for either late this year or early next year. Additionally, the beta testing is earmarked for a private audience.
Rumours also suggest that the tool could be developed in partnership with Naver Corp. While other information about the tool has not been confirmed, the company is expected to name it FabriX or Simply Chat
Samsung wants to prevent the recurrence of security breach
One pivotal motivation driving Samsung’s venture into generative AI is to prevent any recurrence of the security breaches that marred the company’s reputation earlier this year. These breaches were attributed to misuse of the ChatGPT by some employees. This would lead to the sharing of sensitive codes with the chatbot’s global data repository.
In response, Samsung swiftly devised new protocols aimed at safeguarding against similar incidents in the future. This included the prohibition of AI tools like ChatGPT, citing valid security concerns. However, Samsung’s proactive stance in this regard extended beyond mere restrictions. The company is steadfastly committed to developing its very own generative artificial intelligence engine, meticulously tailored for internal corporate use.
Unlike its competitors, Samsung’s AI marvel is exclusively designed to cater to the needs of its workforce. The tool will reportedly boost productivity via emails, document summarisation and coding support. Samsung plans to start testing features including coding support in October.
