Microsoft to roll out Bing Chat on Safari and Google Chrome

July 26, 2023
in AI News

Microsoft’s artificial intelligence chatbot, Bing Chat, has taken a significant leap forward as it now becomes accessible on popular browsers Safari and Google Chrome. After months of being exclusively available on Microsoft Edge, the company has rolled out Bing Chat to other platforms, though limited to an A/B test for a select group of users.

Prior to this expansion, many users did not have access to Bing Chat due to its confinement to the Microsoft Edge browser. However, with the recent rollout, a broader audience can now interact with the ChatGPT-powered chatbot.

The news of Bing Chat’s arrival on Safari and Chrome comes shortly after Microsoft introduced visual search support, providing users with the ability to upload images and obtain detailed answers through the chatbot, rather than relying solely on text-based queries.

To hint at the release of Bing Chat on Google Chrome, Microsoft strategically placed pop-ups in both the Windows 10 and Windows 11 taskbars, notifying users about the chatbot’s newfound availability on these browsers.

Limitations on Google Chrome and Safari

While the expansion of Bing Chat is undoubtedly a positive development, users on Chrome and Safari will experience some limitations compared to the features available on Microsoft Edge. For instance, the maximum number of characters allowed per chat prompt has been reduced to 2000, and the maximum number of messages in a conversation is now limited to five. In contrast, Microsoft Edge allows up to 4000 characters per conversation and permits users to send up to 30 messages before the chat resets.

To encourage a better user experience, Bing Chat users on Chrome and Safari will receive occasional pop-ups, suggesting they switch to Microsoft Edge for a more robust feature set.

Introducing Dark Mode to Bing Chat

In addition to the multi-browser support, Microsoft has also introduced a new dark mode feature for Bing AI. This visually appealing theme aligns with the user’s system preferences, and users can also manually apply it through the overflow menu. With the new dark mode option, Bing Chat users can seamlessly transition between the light and dark themes using the hamburger menu.
