Google is rolling out some major updates to its AI-backed Search Generative Experience (SGE) to help its users make better sense of the information they find on websites.
Since its initial release in May, Google’s SGE has undergone a series of iterative enhancements, with the latest update introducing cutting-edge features designed to provide users with richer insights and a more interactive browsing experience. This month’s upgrades include the integration of image and video support. This further solidifies Google’s commitment to improving the accessibility of online information.
The new features include tools that help users to see the meaning of unknown terms, code information across different languages and an impressive feature that lets users tap the AI ability of SGE while browsing. Google is improving the responses of SGE on queries and topics spanning history, science, economics and many other subjects.
Improved way of searching for information
With the new update, users can hover over a particular word in an AI-generated response to get the definition. The definition of words will be in a pop-up board on the SGE interface. According to Google, users will not only get additional information in the form of text but also diagrams and photos.
For individuals engaged in programming, the new update brings an invaluable tool for debugging and comprehension. Users now have the ability to easily interpret generated code. The SGE now offers AI-generated code outlines to facilitate programming tasks, featuring user-generated code snippets. The update introduces a color-coding system that highlights different components within the code, making it simpler to identify crucial elements like strings, keywords, and comments.
“SGE while browsing” feature
The “SGE while browsing” feature is the most amusing addition, although it is only an experiment in the Search Labs and is available on the Google app for iOS and Android.
The feature is similar to its content highlighting feature that helps users jump to the relevant text, however, the new feature is AI-powered. It helps users find the particular information they are looking for in an article easily. When users click on the link to an article, SGE will generate the key information in the article and links to parts of the article that support the information.
The company also mentioned the feature will not apply to pay-walled articles, and authors can decide to block it by designating their documents and articles as paywalled.
