OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Plugins and Web Browsing for Plus Users

May 17, 2023
in GPT News

OpenAI has officially launched its long-awaited ChatGPT Plugins to ChatGPT Plus users. After months of speculation regarding the internet-connected Plugins, OpenAI has pushed its Plugins live, allowing Plus users to choose whether to turn them on or not using a new Beta feature.

ChatGPT Plugins are internet-connected tools specifically designed to extend ChatGPT’s functionality. The first set of ChatGPT Plugins was created and developed by companies such as Expedia, FiscalNote, Instacart, KAYAK, Klarna, Milo, OpenTable, Shopify, Slack, Speak, Wolfram, and Zapier. These plugins will drastically expand ChatGPT’s understanding, integration, and usefulness.

In addition to the launch of the plugins, OpenAI has also finally granted ChatGPT internet access. When you input a web-powered ChatGPT search, it illustrates the steps it takes to search the web, the “clicks” it is making, and the process the AI follows to return information.

To turn on these features:

Head to your Settings in the bottom left-hand corner of the ChatGPT screen
Select Settings
Select Beta features
Toggle Web browsing, and if available, toggle Plugins
This release propels the artificial intelligence chatbot forward in its capabilities and usefulness for users. With access to up-to-date information and a wide range of plugins from various companies, ChatGPT is sure to continue to impress and innovate.
