OpenAI has taken a significant stride in expanding its ChatGPT chatbot’s user base by releasing the official Android application on the Google Play Store. Following its successful launch on iOS several months ago, the company has been gearing up for the Android version’s arrival, promising a seamless user experience comparable to its iOS counterpart.
The Android iteration of ChatGPT boasts features that ensure uninterrupted conversations across multiple devices, thanks to chat history synchronization. This allows users to engage with the chatbot effortlessly, ensuring a continuous and smooth flow of dialogue.
In a recent tweet, OpenAI officially announced the impending launch, without specifying the exact release date. However, eager Android users can already pre-register for the app on the Google Play Store. Once the application goes live, they will receive a notification, granting them instant access to the much-anticipated ChatGPT.
OpenAI to introduce customized instructions
One of the novel additions to the chatbot is the introduction of ‘customized instructions,’ a feature that enables users to input specific instructions for the chatbot to remember and apply in future interactions. Initially, this feature is exclusively available to Plus plan subscribers, but OpenAI has plans to extend it to all users in the near future.
The timing of OpenAI’s Android release seems particularly relevant, given the ongoing competition in the chatbot space. Rivals Google and Apple have also made significant strides in the AI chatbot domain. Google recently unveiled its chatbot, Bard, in March, bolstering it with new features in July. At the same time, rumors have been swirling about Apple working on its own AI chatbot service.
ChatGPT has proven to be a formidable player in the tech industry since its November launch, inspiring competitors like Microsoft to integrate chatbot-like features into its search engine, Bing, based on GPT-4 technology.
With the Android version now available, OpenAI hopes to attract a wider audience to ChatGPT and solidify its position as a leader in the chatbot market.
